In this role, you’ll work closely with the Head of Finance and Senior Controller to oversee accounting processes and financial control for the organization. You’ll be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with German accounting standards, and being the go-to person for any financial questions from across the team.

Your Tasks
  • Accounting & Bookkeeping: Maintain accurate daily financial records, process transactions (e.g., receipts, expenses, payments), and ensure compliance with German accounting regulations (e.g., VAT, invoicing).

  • Budget & Expense Management: Help track and allocate expenses to the correct cost centers, assist with reviewing project budgets, and contribute to updating financial forecasts. Ensure all financial planning aligns with donor agreements and organizational guidelines.

  • Financial Reporting & Documentation: Assist in the preparation of financial reports for internal teams and external stakeholders (donors, auditors), ensuring that financial documentation is accurate, compliant, and up to date.

  • Team Support & Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for internal teams and external advisors (e.g., auditors, tax consultants, and banks), providing financial guidance and clarifications as needed. Help teams understand financial processes and support smooth budget management.

  • Process Improvement & Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to enhancing financial processes across the organization, helping to ensure the accuracy and clarity of internal financial procedures. Document and share financial knowledge within the team.

  • Operational Support: Ensure the timely completion of financial tasks, such as month-end closings, expense reviews, and updating internal financial documentation. Assist in any operational requirements needed to keep the finance functions running smoothly.

Your Profile

Essential Experience:

  • A background in accounting and financial management, with familiarity in non-profit financial practices and German accounting standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed vocational training (e.g., Steuerfachangestellte), degree in Finance, Accounting, or related fields.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly under time pressure.

  • Knowledge of financial software such as DATEV (experience with DATEV Unternehmen Online is a plus).

  • Proactive approach to identifying and solving challenges independently and in collaboration with teams.

  • Language Skills: Fluency in English (C2) and German (C2).

What make you stand out:

  • Experience in the non-profit sector and project controlling, as well as a desire to manage multiple projects while ensuring compliance. An interest in taxation would be a plus.
